  3.      Habitat - The mockingbird originally bred in scrubby woodlands and canyons but now it is at home in gardens, parks, woodlands, brushy farmland, brushy deserts, and streamside thickets at low elevations. It prefers short grass or nearly bare ground, and favors mowed lawns. It is absent from the interior of forested areas.
